Webarchitects have been developing, maintaining and hosting servers and websites, coding and customising content management systems and other FLOSS web applications running on GNU/Linux servers since 1998. In July 2011 we re-established ourselves as Webarch Co-operative Limited in order to formalise our co-operative ethics and working practices. In early 2013 we merged with Ecohost, another hosting co-operative.

Our Purpose #

We have a strong ethical policy and are a Social Enterprise with the following aim:

To enable the provision of internet based services for socially responsible groups and individuals, using free open source software wherever possible, in a manner that aims to minimise fossil fuel usage and ecological impacts and which also provides sustainable employment

Our Team #

We have a small but committed team of designers, developers and system administrators based in Sheffield. We also have a community of other co-operatives, designers and developers that we work with.

Our Green Credentials #

Our Sheffield services are powered by Good Energy and we are in the process of renewing our existing infrastructure with low powered, energy efficient servers from VeryPC.

Our Iceland services are running from hardware powered by renewable resources, Iceland has a totally green grid.

In addition our office is switching to Good Energy and we do our utmost to minimise our fossil fuel usage.

Co-operation #

All Co-operatives are committed to the Seven International Co-operative Principles and we are a member of Co-operatives UK and Co-operatives Yorkshire and Humber.

We are a multi-stakeholder co-operative which allows out clients and partners to join our co-op, see our rules for more details about our structure.

Our Plan #

In addition to continuing to providing our existing services we have a medium term plan to establish a colocation facility in Sheffield directly powered by hydro power, in association with Sheffield Renewables.
